RC Bike World Championships: A Thrilling Experience in Brisbane

Updated: Sep 2

For the first time ever outside Europe, the RC Bike World Championships roared into Brisbane, Australia from August 3rd to 9th, 2025. Hosted by Holeshot Hobbies and the dedicated crew at Brisbane’s QRCCRA track, it was a week packed with adrenaline, skill, and unforgettable moments.

Racing From Eight Countries: 34 Riders and Over 6,300 Laps

We welcomed pilots from Italy, Germany, Australia, Austria, Japan, Singapore, and more. Across three categories, these 34 riders powered through a total of 6,308 laps. The mix of weather conditions challenged both setups and rider skills alike.

Practice and Qualifying: The Battle Against the Elements

The week kicked off with perfect mid-20s sunshine for practice. However, qualifying brought a twist. Thursday’s late-day sessions saw the Superbike A group racing under lights. These tricky conditions tested tyre and setup choices.

One highlight was Marc Lutz blazing a new 1:5 lap record of 22.2 seconds during practice. He then put down a stunning 23.1-second lap in qualifying under fading light.

Friday morning brought rain and a wet track for qualifying. But drying conditions allowed riders to find their groove and post solid times, despite the slower pace.

Stockbike Surprises and Superbike Battles

Stockbike qualifying threw up surprises. Singapore’s EZ Apandi Ismail took a shock TQ after just weeks on the bike. This proves that passion and skill go a long way. Italy’s Massimiliano Ciccacci and 2024 Stock World Champion Bernhard Renner rounded out the top contenders.

Superbike qualifying was a show of speed and consistency. World Champion Marc Lutz took overall TQ. He was closely followed by Australian Davide Varricchio and local hero Andy Bishop. Japan’s 1:8 World Champion Kenji Osaka was not far behind.

Super Motard: Local Hero Dominates

The Super Motard support race, held Friday to clear the way for main events, saw Queensland’s Chris Haertel dominate. He claimed a TQ and overall win, clocking an impressive 26.997-second best lap. This was a proud moment for the 1:4 bike class.

Finals: Edge-of-Your-Seat Racing

The Stockbike finals were tight. Massimiliano Ciccacci claimed the title after wins in the 1st and 3rd finals. Andrew Ting was impressively consistent with three 2nd places. Meanwhile, Bernhard Renner’s 2nd final win secured him 2nd overall.

Our junior stars Cooper Harris and Oscar Varricchio battled through tough conditions to finish 4th and 7th respectively. They showed bright futures ahead.

The Superbike finals delivered drama to match the talent on track. Marc Lutz and Davide Varricchio traded hard laps. Unfortunately, a crash ended Dave’s bid early. The final race turned wet, with Kenji Osaka powering through for an impressive A3 win and second overall. Marc Lutz took the 2025 Superbike World Champion crown, while Andy Bishop completed the podium.
